How loud to call *homemade ecall"
« on: February 02, 2007, 05:36:18 AM »
This weekend will be my first time ever to hunt varmints. I made a caller and have cottontail in distress sounds on it. The whole sequence last about 30 min. It has several 1-2 min. pauses in between. I am mainly going after several foxes I have seen.
My question is how loud does the call need to be. Does it need to be real real loud so every animal in the county can hear it or does it need to be just loud enough that you can hear it 100-200-300-400????? yards away.
I am sure it is going to be trial and error, but I am trying to avoid as much error as possible.

If you have heard a baby cry when he is really laying it down you have heard about the level you should be calling. the sound goes a lot farther than you would think. I think about three minutes of quite time is about the best, During this quite time don't move your head much and scan the area with your eyes and i don' think you will have any problems. Good luck.....Joe......

run your 30 min sequence then wait at least another 30 min before you reposition or run caller again, sometimes they come from miles away and it takes quite a while,i dont know how many times i have stood up to move and busted a yote coming in out of my line of sight. What did you use to make your caller?
If it aint fair chase its FOUL,and illegal in my state!
