"new" powders for the old 30/06?

i haven't bought a new loading manual for 10yrs now, and i just picked up a 760 in 30/06. i want to load some 150gr old style silver tips. i'm planning on cutting the barrel down to 18.5", and loading light loads for a close quarters gun. i have some imr 4895, and 4831 laying around. but i'm curious if any of the new powders would be better for my application? any comments are welcome, thanks!

I like Hodgdon Varget in my 30-06's. Had some very good results with it.

Varget is a good powder for the 30-06 with the 150-grain bullet.  It is less sensitive to temperature than your current powders, although performance-wise it is almost identical to IMR4895 with that load.

I still use 4320 for 150 gr to try to duplicate factory loads

Most of Federal's Premium loads are loaded with IMR4350 if you want to match any of their factory loads.

I've found H414 very good in my Savage, but I normally load 165 gn. Sierra's.  About 2900 fps (according to the book - I haven't had a chance to chronograph it) and about MOA or a little better (when I do my part).  That load has accounted for 6 one shot kills on deer between me and my uncle.

I've always had excellent results using imr4350 with 150gr bullets and up and imr4064 with the lighter 130gr bullets.

I have had success with IMR-4350, 4064, and RL-19 qith 150 grain bullets.

I've used H-4831SC and IMR 4350 in 165gr. loads with great accuracy.  Prefer the IMR 4350 loads though and that's what I use with 165.

I load ammo for a friend and use H-4895 and 150gr. Hornady SPs.  Shoots 3/4 MOA or better and at 48.5gr. is very easy on the shoulder.  He's killed two deer with that load during the 2006 season and is very pleased with the performance.  Leaves nickel sized holes coming out so far.

My newest re-loading manual was purchased in 1974-Hornady.  I do have a recent free IMR brochure.  For .30-06 i use IMR 3031 with bullets to, and including 150 grains:    IMR 4831 with bullets heavier than 150 grains.  These two powders have worked very well for me.   Shot tens of thousands of rounds loaded with those powders.  Kiilled scores of deer, and a dozen or so hogs with my .30-06 handloads.   Over 95 percent of my kills  were one shot bang flops.
