Cowboys vs Cops
« on: May 05, 2003, 08:02:15 AM »
Hey everyone,

Shot a really fun match this weekend.  Cowboys vs Cops was for charity.  Seems like I heard the lady say we raised over 2 grand for special olympics.

Here is how it went.  Ya either brought a team with ya or they signed ya up with 4 other cowboy shooters.  The cops came with teams of thier own.

We used our single action pistols and what ever shotgun we normally use or matches.  The cops got to use what ever pistola they wanted.  I am fairy sure that they all used semi autos , and what ever shotgun they wanted.   We went by our normal rules,  to make it somewhat even the cops got to load two mags with 5 rounds apiece.  They were allowed to start each stage with one magazine in the weapon with a round chambered and the gun on safe.   Their shotguns were started empty.  They were allowed to load on the clock. but they could fill the magazine full.   One guy had this really kewl shotgun that used a clip.  That thing was way fast.

So I know what some of ya may be a wondering ...Well how did ol DB do against all them super quick cops?  ......isnt that what you were wondering?

The team I was assigned to finished 6th out of 15. Not bad for just showing up huh?   I finished 23 out of 80.  Not too bad.  I am still yet to be assesed a procedural since I started shooting.. something that I am proud of .

We shot 6 stages all really fun ones too.  The overall winner  ( Handle Bar Doc)  shot all six stages in under 90 seconds.   Thats right kiddos  6 stages in under a min and a half.  He is so fast,  I shot the whole thing in 188 seconds.  Oh well I had a blast.

When we signed up that morning we were allowed to buy misses.  6 misses for 5 bucks..  you bet I did.  If ya had a miss on a stage you used your miss.  If ya had no misses you used it to take 5 seconds off of your time.. I was sure glad I bought them misses.

My hats off to the folks at Badlands Bar 3,  we had a blast.  Things went smoothly I thought.   Other that when I accidently erased a shooters time.  I still cant figure out how I did that.  He got a reshoot and had no misses that time around.  I sure felt bad.

Oh  How did the cops do?   I was looking at the score sheet and I think by looking at names the highest finishing cop was 24th.  Not too bad.

I was sure supprised that we were able to hang with them...I look forward to doing it next year.

Sounds like a really fun way to shoot Cowboy.  Might want to see if my club would like to do something like that

Sounds like they should be able to import cops like Lefty Longridge  :-)

Hey, that sounds like a fun time and for a good cause too. I like the buy misses concept, Lord knows I could always use that
