Scoping a Ruger 77/22
« on: January 14, 2007, 02:50:33 PM »
I tried to scope a 77/22 for a buddy of mine and there isnt enough windage in the scope to get it on the paper.I tried another scope with the same results. The rings are for the 77/22. I reversed them fron to back with the same results.I sent the rifle back to Ruger and they returned it without doing anything. Is Ruger known for this kind of service?

What kinda scope are you using? And Ruger has the best sevice department in the industry! Ive got a luepold rimfire compact on my Ruger and know problems. If your using a cheap scope or anyhting under $100 dollars don't talk to me! Thats one of the biggest problems with rilfe troubles! Well I got this $35 Tasco and my rifle won't shoot! ;D :o I can't get it to zero! You get what you pay for! Wake Up! >:(

I put leopold 4x 12 and leopold rings on it.It was bought at a gunshop closeout and they took the rings out of the box and sold them  seperately. So no it doesnt have cheep glass on it.I'm not trying to offend, but It apears the reciever was milled crooked where the rings mount. I am surprised that they didnt even send a note back with the gunexplaining the whatnots about the rifle.

I didnt say the rifle wouldnt group,When I mounted the scope,I set the rifle in a vise and bore sight it without the bolt in as I do all of my firearms, and at 20 feet the scope run out of windage with about 2 inches left to get poit of impact close to the crosshairs.the rifle has never been fired. It WILL NOT adjust even close enough to even try to start zeroing it in

Two things, one why aren't you using the rings supplied by Ruger?  They are excellent rings and the second is if you think there is a problem with the receiver you should send it back to Ruger.  They stand behind their products.
Good Shooting,
George

If for some reason, Ruger won't fix the problem, Millet makes rings that adjust for windage. The Ruger rings should work fine though. You said you moved them back to front, did you try turning them around (tightening screw on other side of receiver?).

The rings that were supposed to be with the gun were seperated from the gun at a closeout sale of one of our gunshops and sold seperately,I guess to help reduce their losses.I sent the gun back to ruger and with a note explaning my dilemma and they sent it back without doing anything or even sending me a note telling me what I was doing wrong or if there is something wrong, why they didnt repair the rifle.Millet will probably be my next step. For the cost of shipping I can  pay a lil extra and get the rings and not worry with it any more.

BTW I am not bashing ruger, I just dont understand why they didnt repair the rifle or if they didnt understand what was wrong with the rifle by the way the note to them was worded.I have a mark ll slabside that wouldnt trad for another pistol in the world.

No Sir,When I went to purchase ruger rings ,our local  all things hunting and fishing didnt have any. They brought me a set of leupold from the back and hit me for 50.00 bucks.I would figure, since the package was clearly marked for the 77/22 that they should be correct.( I feel unwelcomed around here,I didnt mean to step on toes but I would have at least expected a reply from ruger when I got the rifle back). They sent NOTHING.

sorry you are having trouble , i had a front sight off to the left on a mk11 gvt .22  , they sent me a new gun !
they do have mistakes get out , but they do a good job fixing them ( most of the time ) , anyway i had to get leupold rings on a mini 30 they were close to one side but zeroed !
i have a m-77 in .17 , 22 mag and .22 lr all have the factory rings and worked well !
if the scope fits in the rings , then the reciver is most likely stright ( it is injection moulded i think ) you may want to see if the bbl is stright in the reciever or bent ! maybe the socket for the bbl was drilled off center , might check the two screws that hold the bbl to the reciever , need same torque on both !
an after thought , check the lugs on the rings that index them on the reciever to see if any burrs are on them !
good luck !
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
