I have two weeks off coming up. The last two weeks of September.
Looking for somewhere to go and disappear for a while. With the cost of Gas, I plan on driving somewhere, setting up a camp, and staying 'till I come back. I have a good 3 season tent and all needed gear.
Would like to stay within 2 day drive of Nashville, Tn. Am not looking for luxury, preferably somewhere that I am the only human type person around. Fishing and/or hunting opportunities would be great.
Any good suggestions?

There are all sorts of places to camp in the Cherokee, Nantahala and Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests.

http://www.fs.fed.us/r8/cherokee/recreation/camping.shtml "Dispersed camping outside of developed campgrounds is permitted at no charge. Camping in this manner is limited to 14 days and the site must be occupied once every 24 hours."

Most National Forests allow dispersed camping anywhere in the Forest that it is not posted that camping is not allowed.  There may be restrictions on how far from a numbered road you must be, check each Forest's regulations.

Alan, look into the primitive camping in the LBL. You can camp on the water with good fishing. About 2 hrs drive for you.If you get away from the campgrounds no people. You can get info on line, just google "LBL".

You could go to big south fork and scout us some hogs!  Fish in the east fork......

If you haven't been to East Tennessee There are loads of places in the Cherokee where you'll never pass another car all day.

That time in September is also a good time to view the elk at Cataloochee but there will be loads of people there.......

Looks like it will be near the Cumberland river just south of KY. Friend owns a place there and is offering to allow me to camp there, for as long as I like. Will most likely take him up on it.
