I'm not familiar with the rifle in question but you shouldn't have to remove the barrel. Some smiths will as they feel it makes for a better, straighter chamber but I've done this one free hand and all worked well.

I've been wondering about these rifles. I haven't gotten any in the shop yet to look at, but the way the Savage guys described it to me at the SHOT show they shrink/press the barrels in. If this is true, then there's not a lot you can do with them. I'd like to hear some reports from folks who have actually worked on them to see if this is true. As for doing this rechambering with the barrel still on, how do you tell when you've gone far enough? Any more than just kiss that rim cut and you've gone too far. And how do you polish it afterward to get all the lines out? I've tried and it's really hard with the receiver in the way.

It's a pain. Like building a ship IN the bottle.. I use and extension and do it by hand.. All we're doing is squaring the shoulder.. still it is truly a pain and the lathe ould feel soooo much better.. Also I forgot my normal caveat.. The K-Hornet is not a way to add performance, it's a way to add lifespan to your brass.. Good luck!  Just a note. Sold my last K-Hornet, down to just 3 hornets, a Kimber, a M54 winchester and a CZ527FS.. The winchester is original(cost too much to change it), the Kimber too. The CZ shoots too good to change.. Ain't life hard!! Really the FS CZ will easily shoot better than the Kimber and with facotry ammo. It really likes handloadsm especially with the 35 grain VMax bullets.. If I could stand to sit long enough I'd try calling up a Bob before the local season ends.. I may tru anyway!!
