77 Hawkeye 7mm/08
« on: February 03, 2007, 01:00:01 PM »
Well got the Hawkeye yesterday!
I like it pretty well, I scoped it with a 3200 bushnell.
Ive started the break in process as I do all my other rifles, I know some dont believe in it and I really cant tell you that it makes one shoot any better but it does make on easier to clean the copper out.
I just wanted to report that the bore seems smoother than on the other rugers that I have broken in with the clean after every shot for the first 10 then after three shot groups for the next 10 or untill it smooths out.
It handles well IMO well with the new stock design and I like the matte finish, the trigger may be a little better but its going to need some smoothing, it does break cleaner than most of my other rugers did.
I hope its a shooter.

My M77s to date are

7mm saum stainless stocked with a AI laminate
6.5 swede wood blue
223 ultralite wood blue
7mm/08 hawkeye wood blue
I gave my son a 260 wood blue.

I will post more about how it shoots after I finish the break in and weather permits, its too wet to get to my range. so i just shot the few times in the back yard.

I use a Ruger M77 MarkII all weather .243 for my coyote rifle and I just love it. I have had it for almost 5 years now and it will shoot several different loads subMOA. I just handled my first Hawkeye this past weekend at the gunshop and I really liked the feel of it. The finish was very nice as you stated. I am also interested in your choice of caliber.

Please keep us posted on how it performs at the range as reyn61 said.

Just as soon as it dries up a little around here and I get a day or two off, I will take it to the range.
Well ive got to work up some loads for it also, Probably with some 130 grain speers and varget or IMR 4895.
I will keep you posted and thanks for asking.
