First snare set
« on: February 04, 2007, 12:17:42 PM »
I have been unable to trap much this year because I am getting over surgery on my back. I decided that it was too cold yesterday to do anything else so I thought I would try a couple of PAs new "cable restraint" sets. I made up 2 snares and set them on trails here on the farm, these were my very first snare sets. This morning I had a big female coyote in the very first set! I am sure it will not always be this easy but you cn't get a better start. I think next year I will do more upland hunting in the fall and save the fox and coyote for after the first of the year. There isn't anything else to do now anyway. You guys should be pushing for these if your state does not allow them. Shotgunner

I think snaring coyotes is way simpler than foothold traps given the time of the season I use them. The first time I set up a brush patch with snares for coyotes I set 7 snares(too few for that spot) I had 5 dead coyotes first check.
I love the smell of coyote gland lure early in the morning. It smells like victory!!
