Lever Evolution ammunition - how good is it?
« on: January 27, 2007, 03:46:24 PM »
Haven't used any myself, although I bought a couple boxes for my hunting buddy for Christmas.

Here are some testimonials from Cabelas.  There were 44 of them, with a rating of 4.9 out of 5.  You can read them all here: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0040380216159a&navCount=1&podId=0040380&parentId=cat20839&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat20712-cat20839&catalogCode=XG&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20839&hasJS=true

#3, .30-30:  "At 100 yd.s, the 336 groups about an inch, and the Model 94 maybe just a little more than an inch. Stretching out to 200 yds with the 336 was a breeze, with just over 3 inch group. "

#4,.35 Rem and .444: "The accuracy on the range is quite impressive also."

#5, .45-70: "I produced an 1.5" three round grouping with my gun. Keep in mind, this was with an 18.5" barrel and a 4x scope."

#6, .45-70: "This is some very accurate ammo, last three shots after sighting in was a 1 inch group at 100 yards. these are definetly worth trying."

#8 ,.450 Marlin: "This is some very accurate ammo, last three shots after sighting in was a 1 inch group at 100 yards. these are definetly worth trying."

#9, .30-30 and .45-70: "I've used this in 30-30 and 45/70, both proved to be stunning, giving 1 inch groups at 100 yards. "

#11, .30-30: "The 30-30 leverevolution ammunition I recieved shot just great. The recoil was less than my by-the-book handloads and the groups were smaller (under two inches). "

#18, .35 Rem: "I had 1 inch groups at 100 yds and could consistantly hit the 200 yd and the 300 yd plates using the BDC info on the box. Good product."

#21, .444 and .30-30: [.444] "I can group 10 rds. in 1 1/2"s. [.30-30] I was so pleased I also added one of their 30-30s to my collection and at 200 yd. I can compete whit almost any other weapon out there. "

#23, .30-30: "I can group 10 rds. in 1 1/2"s. I was so pleased I also added one of their 30-30s to my collection and at 200 yd. I can compete whit almost any other weapon out there. "

#25, unknown: "Sub-1" 3- Shot groups at 100 yards! Very accurate for a Big Bore."

#26, .30-30: "The LeverRevolution ammunition reduced the group size to about 1.2 inches and consistently 2.5 inches high @ 100 Yards."

#29, .45-70: "I sighted in at 3" high at 100 yd and I am 2 1/2 " low at 200. My best group was 2 1/2 " at 200 yd. My worst group was 1 3/4 at 100 yd."

#30, .444: "this is the best ammo i have ever used. my groups at 100 yards are touching each other."

#33, .30-30: "Amazing performance and accuracy. At the range my groupings were .75 out of a 20" Marlin at 100 yds. "

#34, 450 Marlin: "Also in preliminary tests that I preformed, this ammo grouped at less than 1.5 inches at 150 yards."

#37, .45-70: "I shot a single group of three that measured 0.9 inches at 100 yards,"

#38, .30-30: "With my 50+ year old 30-30 made by WesternField, I was shooting 1.5" groups.....something I've never come close to doing at 100 yds."  "I purchased a Marlin 336XLR. Took it out to the range and it produced a 1.25" 3 shot grouping at 200 yds!"

I've used the 30-30 and 35 Rem. at the range and the 35 Rem. on deer. My 336SS doesn't shoot the 30-30 LEs well, so I haven't used them on game. The 35s group about 1.5 MOA out of my 336 35LTD and I had DRTs at 40-60 yards on 2 deer this fall.  However, after several attempts I was also able to duplicate the magazine jam that has been noted for that cartridge.  Apparently the plastic tips can occasionally wedge under the rim of the cartridge in front of them in the magazine. I doubt I'll be using that round in bear country again until there is a good solution.

Took me 3 boxes to realize that they wouldn't shoot out of a 336cs. At the time there wasn't a lot of info posted about the accuracy with barrel banded, micro grooved rifles. I wouldn't waste more than a box of shells on trying to get it to shoot out of one unless it was an XLR.

Took me one box out of my 336W 30/30 to realize I was done handloading for my rifle.  The leverolution ammo is great!

The performance on feral hogs out of my 35 Rem has been really good, but I have also ahd to take the rifle to the gun smith 2 times now.  2 different gun smiths and neither could find anything wrong with the rifle itself.  I guess the jamming is due to the ammo.  So it either goes to Marlin for some work, or I go to Rem core lokt's and forget the hornady ammo...

Looks pretty good on paper, just not my target paper.  I wish it would shoot in my gun.

Go over to the marlinowners forum and look for the threads on the jamming problems with the 35 Rem. LEs. The magazine tube is too big for the LE ammo. Hornady should have caught it, but apparently there's no reason the tube needs to be that diameter either. Hopefully they aren't too busy pointing fingers at each other to fix the problem.

It shoots VERY well out of my, and my sons 20" 336's. Best deer ammo I've ever used in over 35 years.
5 deer so far with it, all fell at the shot or dropped within sight. 170 corelokts don't do that as a rule.

I have to admit that the LeverEv ammo doesn't group as well on paper as the Winchester and Federal ammo that I have shot in the past, but I won't go back to my old ammo.  I killed 4 deer and 3 hogs with LeverEvs out of my Marlin 336T and am sold due to terminal performance on game.
