Expected accuracy of 30/30 factory barrel in Contender Carbine
« on: February 03, 2007, 04:55:21 PM »
Are these barrels known to be accurate to any degree  or are they not something you would want to enter into a stock rifle benchrest match with? Thanks for any input on this, Tom.

Do you load your own.

Probably not a bench rest barrel ...but they aren't sold as such either.

What do you expect from it.

I have factory TC barrels that are more than "deer deadly at 200 yds. accurate" .

Doubtful you are using a 30-30 for priairie dogs.

A 30-30 shooting factory rounds, it won't matter who makes the gun/barrel is only going to be so accurate anyway.

Hello all,

Now I have to speak up on this one.   I have a factory 23" factory 30/30 on my g2 frame.  I have only ran the hornaday leverloution stuff through it but I must say it is one of my best if not my best shooting rifle.  when I get my reloader up and running I will true some of my home brewed stuff trough it but I think I am going to have a hard time beating what I have now.
I guess to sum it up I love mine and it does all I ask and more.

Carl

Never had a carbine barrel, but I had a 14" with a scope, and with my handloads,  at 50 yds. you had to measure the outside diameter of the groups, and then subtract the bullet caliber to find center to center.  In other words, it shot into pretty much one hole.  In 1/2" or so at 100 yds.  I don't know if they all shot like mine or not.

I also had a 23" G2. With factory remington 170g "core lokts" it would shoot into about a .5" at 50 yds.
Never shot it further but did take a couple squirells with it no problem.

My scoped Super 14 shoots better than I can at 100 yds. Have yet to draw down on a deer with it, but I'm looking forward to that day.
