nosler accu-bond
« on: February 03, 2007, 03:32:07 PM »
E-mailed nosler about my doubts of the 7x30 with 120 gr. bullets not penetrating on a shoulder hit on deer and told them I had decieded on the 140 gr Ballistic tip or the 140 gr. partition and asked them there opinion , they thought my two choices were fine BUT if I wanted to be sure to use the
140 gr. accubond and that this bullet would penetrate both shoulders if nessasary , also I have been thinking about the Barnes TSX bullet , can anyone share any experince with either bullet in the carbine .

I loaded my 7-30 Waters with Barnes 120 grain Triple Shock for my son this year. I usually load the 120 Ballistic tip but my boys were drawn for the Kiabab plateau and the Arizona Game and Fish encourages the use of lead free ammo to help the California Condors that forage there. The bullet and round performed great . It was accurate. The exit hole in the doe that he shot was spectacular, especially concidering the non fragmenting design of the bullet.

She was hit just behind the shoulder and it exited through the offside shoulder. She ran ten yards or less with a spectacular bleed out. A blind man could have trailed her. I have double lunged alot of deer with a 270 win, but seldom seen so much blood on the ground. Another advantage of the TSX is that they will expand at a lower velocity (compared with most bullets).
Oh yeah it was a blast. I think that hunting with your kids is the most fun to be had. I told the boys on the way home "we will do this only one more time before you are grown" (because it is 500 miles from our home).  I have already changed my mind and told them that they can apply for the kiabab again next year! It was wicked cold out part of the time but we weathered it out in a cabin tent with a wood stove inside.

I have shot several animals with the TSX in 30-06 All with VERY IMPRESIVE results. I carryed a 6.8SPC carbine a few times this past fall loaded with 110 Gr. TSX but when deer time came I had the 06 in my hands so the 110 Gr. TSX is as yet untested. I would bet it would have done very well I think it is the best game killing bullet on the planet today.

The 120gr TSX is awesome on game, but I would have to disagree with Elwood.  At low speed I've usualy seen them just pinhole through and not open up.  I use them in long guns(280, 7mag), but can't get um to open up much in the 7-30 past 100yrds or so.  I don't really see this as a problem though as I like complete pass throughs.
