Rem. 870 scope mount

Hello all, I am looking to put a scope on my 870 without drilling it. I am thinking of using an Aimtech or a  B- Square mount. Has anyone used these, or heard if they are decent? I would appreciate any tips. Thanks - Gordy.

The saddle mounts do work, but are not the best at returning to zero after they have been removed then re-installed. My son has one on his 870 and uses it in conjunction with his 20" choke tube slug barrel . For turkeys he puts in the Remington Super Full Turkey choke, for deer he screws in the rifled or IC choke and only has to make minor adjustments to the scope.

The biggest problem with these mounts is keeping the moisture from being trapped between the surfaces  and rusting on a steel receiver like the 870. It is not as big of a problem with the alloy receivers like Mossberg has.

Buy a barrel with a cantilever mount.

No drilling required. The scope mounts right on the barrel.

I also opted for a Hastings cantilever mount for my 870.  I use this gun for erverything from deer to small game to home defense, and every time I switch back to the slug barrel, it has not failed to hold repeatable zero.  Nicely accurate, as well.

I had a scope mount of a 1100 I bought that used special bolts that replace the receiver pins to mount the scope. It was very solid. Bet there's one made for the 870 as well.

Yes, they are very solid.  The problem comes when the rifled barrel is removed for cleaning or whatever and is re-installed.  The zero will change.  Get a cantilever barrel:  i regret that i did not.

Here is my Remington 870 Express Magnum with a Tasco 2.5x shotgun scope mounted on the "B" Square assembly.  That scope in the picture is a Banner 3x9 that didn't hold up to the recoil and gave up the ghost.  Oh yeah I should mention that this original scope was not rated for a shotgun. 



In your case if you have the 870 already, go with the fully rifled cantilever barrel.  Then you would not have to worry about the saddle "B" Square mount base.
