My single-six came with both the long rifle and mag cylinders, so it is possible.  Now, if you have only one, I believe installing another cylinder should require a trip back to the factory.  However, I have found in the past that parts such as cylinders are interchangable between revolvers.  Not to say that this will happen for you, but if you have a local gunsmith who has been in business for a while, he may just have a mag cylinder lying around that will fit your revolver.

It will likely work.  But before you buy, check the fit in YOUR gun.  There may be excessive gap between the cylinder and barrel, or the cylinder may have more movement forward and back than you like.  Personally I have done a few swaps with full sized Rugers and I have only had one that actually had to be fitted.  Go for it.  44 Man

The early old models bore size is to small for .22 mag, don't recall the serial numbers where the larger bore became standard.  All new models can use both.

I mis-placed my .22 mag cylinder, called  Ruger, they said I had to send the gun in and have the cyl. fitted
