Popping pigeons with the Single-Six!
« on: February 28, 2007, 11:14:55 AM »
I took a load of scrap copper, alluminum, etc. today to a local recycle place. It's a huge barn that was formerly used as a dairy barn for years. The guy who owns it has a lot of old cars upstairs, and he was fussing about the pigeons crapping all over them. :D He hollered at me, and said "Lester, I know you got a gun in that truck". I told him of course, and got my trusty 32 magnum Single Six out. He laughed, and said "you can't kill no pigeon with a pistol"!

Of course I had to prove him wrong ;D. I didn't want to shoot inside because of the roof, so I looked around under the eaves for a feathered target. I managed to find a few that offered a good backstop against the timbers, and proceded to bust three in a row at ranges from about 20-35 yards. This was with my home cast bullets, and a light load of Trail Boss. Low noise, but pretty good puffs of feathers! ;D

He loved it, and I'm gonna take my smooth bore 22 Savage over there this week loaded with shot shells. I should have plenty of targets inside the main barn, the secondary buildings, and a couple huge silo's. This'll be the best oportunity I've had with this smooth bore. I've killed a few rats for the same fellow, but there's a LOT more pigeons! 8)

Sounds like you have a new "hobby"!  I wouldn't mind having a similar opportunity, but we don't have too many pigeons around here.  If we did, I guess I'd have to buy another gun!  Have fun pigeon-busting.
