What magnification?
« on: February 11, 2007, 04:28:11 AM »
On all my TC`s - I have Leupold 2,5-8.
For my revolvers I have always been happy with Leupold 2x and Docter-sights, but after I found a very accurate load for my 454 with 240 gr. XTP/1880 fps - I consider to mount a 2,5-8 on this too (I have a mountingsystem which allow me to change optics within seconds).  This load can be used up to 140 yds, and at that range, I feel that 2x is to little.

Somebody will for sure say that:  "140 yds?  No! Much longer than that!".
But my point of view is that I want to shoot with a TC in a proper caliber for long shots when I am hunting.

The only reason not to mount a 2,5-8 is that I feel that the 2x`eye-relief is better for a revolver - because much of the shooting is not done in the same "good position" as with TC`s with 14" barrels - where I can stretch out my hands in full length.

"But you can bring with you all three sights and change when the needs are there?"
Yes, I can - but will I do that "in the real life"?  No!

What do you do?

I have the Bushnell Elite 3200 2-6X on my 10" .454.  It works fine, but I believe it has a longer eye relief than the Leupold variables.  I'd say just put the 2.5-8 on your Casull and try it.  It's really the only way you will know for sure.

I use a Smith and Wesson 2x scope made by Nikon, on my hunting hand gun. What makes it work well for me at ranges as far as 200 yards are the EXTRA heavy duplex cross hairs that make for easy, fast target acquisition.

Ms. Hitman is correct regarding the Bushnell Eliite 3200 2-6X scope. The eye relief is also pretty consistant from 2X to 6X... the best on the market in my opinion, and much more constant than a 2-8X Leupold. I'm only using that Bushnell scope on 8 big-game Contenders and an Encore, not on revolvers, where I personally prefer a Leupold 2X or 4X, depending upon the gun, but the 3200 is a very good option for you to consider. It's also more compact than the Loopy, and has been tough enough on the guns I've used it on.

Hitman's Freedom and scope combo work awesome together and its a hoot to shoot.  The scope has held up VERY well and he shoots 1.5" 5 shot groups routinely with that revolver at 100 yards at the range.  However, I really like a straight power scope on mine.  I ordered a new TSOB mount to put a 4x Leupold on my 7.5" FA Casull.  GS
