Rod to clear a ball in chamber
« on: February 14, 2007, 05:20:38 PM »
What size rod are you guys useing to get a ball out of a cylinder of a ruger old army?  I took the nipple out and a 11/64 drill bit is the largest that will fit, So I went looking for 11/64 brass rod and all I can find is 1/8, Is that to small to tap out a ball in a cylinder that has been packed in?

Is there powder in the chamber?  If not, with the nipple pulled, you can pour some in, replace the nipple, seat the ball to the powder, cap it and shoot it out.  A 1/8 inch rod should push it out if you keep it centered on the ball.  You can also pilot drill the ball from the front, drive a screw into it and jack it out from the front.
