My Rossi .22-250 has accuracy probelms at 100 yards
« on: January 11, 2007, 08:18:47 AM »
My wife gave me a Rossi .22-250 for CHRISTmas. I have made two  trips to the range, and it groups 2 in or so. It has a 23 in. Heavy Barrel with 1:10 twist. I wanted this rifle for my predator hunting, cause my remington 243 and .308 really makes a mess on the hides. I have shot  1 box 55 grain vmax, 1/2 box 55 grain BTHP , 1/2 box 55 grain soft pionts all shoot crappy. Is it my scope maybe or the rifle it self. Mt scope is a brand new Tasco 6-24x42 varmint scope. Any help out here?

I'm seeing a lot of instances lately of the software replacing "parts" of a word with (censored word) when nothing I'm aware of on the censor list seems to fit in the space. I'd like to track this down and see what the heck is going on.

Would you e-mail me at gbomgmt@graybeardoutdoors.com and tell me what the word you used was so I can figure out what's going on with the censor program?

Are you sure it's a 1 in 10 rifling, mine is 1 in 14 like must 22-250's are. Also are you shooting factory ammo or reloads? Mine likes Varget with 52 grain v-max.

I just checked the Rossi web site and they indead show the 22-250 as a 1 in 10 twist which seems kinda weard for the 250 , most being a 1-14 or 1-16 . I have the same scope on my H&R 250 and it shoots at point of aim , so i dout that it is the scope .

It may be that the barrel needs a good polishing , also check the crown on the muzzle for anything thats rough or looks not right , something else to look at is trigger pull , having the transfer bar system you will need to pull through the trigger , not just stop when you feel the break .

Single shots can also be very picky about lock-up , so a good cleaning of the lock mec. may be in order , the spray cans of brake cleaner from the auto parts store work very well for this .

Hope this helps .

Clean it well, ( no copper fouling), and try another scope.  i stopped shooting my M700 in .270, because accuracy fell off.  I changed scopes, and the accuracy was back.

My bull barrel 223 is one of my most accurate rifles, 1/2" groups all day long, better than my Handi's...........
