Accuracy of Blackhawk Convertible vs S&W for targets?
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:59:25 PM »
I'm interested in getting started in Bullseye shooting in either full 2700 events (requiring a .22 and a .45ACP) or the "Distinguished Revolver" class which uses .38 caliber arms.

I realize in 2700 matches most competitors use semi-autos but I'd like to try it with revolvers.

My first thought was Smith & Wesson but I'm wondering if anyone could comment on accuracy of the Ruger Blackhawk Convertible (which is available in .45ACP) versus the S&W model 625 which would be my likely gun of choice from that maker or the BH in .357 (I'd use .38s) vs the S&W 686.

The Rugers are significantly lower in price than the S&Ws.

I currently have 3 Rugers (an older Bearcat and 2 Old model Vaqueros) but am not experienced with their adjustable sight guns.

Thank you.

I'm sure a few Ruger fans will chime in, which will be good as I don't have any experience with the convertibles in .45 acp.  I have a 625 Smith that shot under 3" at 50 yds. right out of the box with no load development, and I have worked with a 586, (blued version of the 686), that would come closer to 2" at 50 yds.  You are right about the price difference, but the generally better single action trigger pull may be worth it.  For competition, I would replace the sights on either brand of gun, if that's legal for competition.  Hope this helps.

I love my Rugers but for Bullseye shooting I have used S&W extensively. ;D
