Ruger 10/22 clip

I have a ruger 10/22 and 1 of the clips dont seem to feed the ammo all the time like shoot 3 or 4 times then click pull bolt back and didnt feed a round in the barrel seems like the sping or what ever is in there is weak and wont push a round up  and the 2nd one does it some times not as much but is there a way to take factory 10 round clips apart and work on the spring or fix it or are they just junk hate to have to buy 15 doller clips every little bit   o by the way i leave a few rounds in the clip not in the gun though be cause i live on a farm and dont want to load the clip up when in a hurry to shoot a skunk up by the house i know leaveing ammo in the clip is not good but is there some way i can fix these clips thanks for the info      John

I had trouble with a 77-22mag magazine a few years ago when it was new from the factory.  There is a screw on the end of the magazine (I think on the front end but I may be wrong) where you can adjust spring tension.  I had to move the screw a little bit to get it to reliably feed.  I bet if you search the web a little you will find disassembly instructions as well as adjustment instructions.  They can be cleaned and will last forever.

I have a HotLips magazine that works fine, but I bought a SteelLips magazine that I could never get to work.  I thought "Steel" must be better, oh and "More Expensive" must be better.  Wrong.  I tried all the tricks I found on the internet to try to get it to function and could not.  I think there is a high dollar high-cap magazine that is supposed to be good.  Other than that, I think it is hit and miss.  I personally just went back to the Ruger 10 rounders.  No problems there.

I am home now and looking at a magazine.  Looking at it from the bottom one end has a part sticking out, and the other has a part that goes in.  Straight up from the part that goes in is the screw I was talking about.  It is a socket head screw, and the tension on the spring is adjusted with that.  I suggest cleaning out the magazine with some solvent and blow it out good.  Then try adjusting the spring a little at a time to see if you can get it to work.  I have factory mags and some of the "hot lips" ones and they all work.  I like the factory ones because they don't stick out the bottom of the gun, but of course the don't hold as many rounds.

Backstrap, had the same problem with one of my Ruger factory 10-22 clips.  I filled it up with bore cleaner, let it set for about a minute, poured it out, poured it back in and let it set again....flushed with Rem Oil, turned it upside down on a rag and let it drain...works great.  Not sure how old your clip is, but this is the original clip and my rifle is a walnut stock, checkered, no barrel band.  I have had it 12 years and I bought it used.

Check out RimfireCentral.com you will find instructions in one of the "stickeys" to take the factory mags apart and adjust them.

       The factory mag is one of the most reliable mags out there. Most guys with the match barrels find the bentz chambers have a tighter throat dia. [.2255] vs a sporter barrel at [2270] and that the factory mag is one of the few that will consistantly feed without a problem. A lot of the aftermarket mags will cause feeding problems.  In time they all get dirty and need to be cleaned. Keith gave you a real good site for disasembly and cleaning. Good luck...Jim

Yes this are the factory ruger 10 round clips and they both work great now after a good cleaning
