I've had a Marlin 1895 for 29 years, can't think of one problem.

Have had one for several years and love it.  From mild to wild, its a shooter.

Plinker loads start at 300g hardcast over 13.5g HS-6 for 1167fps and near one-hole accuracy at 50 yards.  Recoil about half a .30-30.

My hunting load is a 350g North Fork at 2183fps.  It has accounted for a forkhorn mulie at 197 lasered yards and a 6x6 bullelk at 213 lasered yards.  Very authoritative, to say the least!

Then I have my "Rhino Blaster" load for pesky backyard rhino.  460g hardcast at 1812fps. 

While these loads pretty much cover my needs, I have 16 others I've worked up - considerably more than for any other firearm.  That should give you some idea of where it sits in the heirarchy of rifles in the safe...

Best advice I can give is get one. Without the ports.

The only problem I see is the ejector.  Get a "Bear Proof Ejector" and save yourself allot of headaches.   It cost $25 and is worth every penny.  The Wild West trigger is also nice for a 3 lb pull.  Other than that it is a great rifle.  MV out!

I have had one for years. The accuracy at 100 yards and beyond is amazing. I have taken my largest buck with it at 120 yards with this gun. This year I will take the 4x scope off and replace with a peep sight to compete in cowboy action rifle events. I love this gun and recommend it.

Bought the XLR. Couldn't resist the SS and the grey lam stocks. 24 ich barrel is a little excessive but it shoots great

Just today I took the 4x Burris scope off the 1895 and replaced it with a Williams peep sight. This make the gun so much more compact and carryable. Can you post a picture of your new gun?  I will bet it is beautiful and you will enjoy it.

Here are the parts you should buy to prevent jams and fix the floppy trigger.  They are fairly easy to install.  Use a well lighted work area with a rug or towel under the rifle.  Your kitchen table is fine.  Watch your screws because they are all not the same size and must go back where they came from.  MV out!
