This is one of those models that are going to garner many many different opinions(mostly negative). The majority of shooters believe it to be garbage.

I recommended it to my cousin 2 years ago ONLY because he was strapped for cash and Needed something fast, so we made a trip to Walmart and picked one up. He is no stranger to rifles so even today he doesnt look at it with pride or anything, but with that said, it's a shooter.

Unlike most of my personal collection, it will take ANY brand of ammo he feeds it and it shoots it ALL consistently(.270 caliber). The stock is a joke, the magazine is wierd, the bolt feels like poop, but with that said....

I can hit golf balls @ 200 yards with it, shot after shot. Simply put?? His is one ugly stick that shoots very well. You won't hear the same experience from others though. I'm just giving an honest first hand account.

I wouldnt take it on a big hunt but thats because I'm spoiled by higher end 700's, but for 300.00, it gets people into the sport and thats a good thing in my opinion. The scope that comes with it isnt terrible, it handles the recoil of the rifle well enough so that it doesnt lose 2 much of its zero.

*Disclaimer* For a couple hundred more dollars, you could get something much better which I recommend doing. But for some, that means an extra paycheck and we all know certain peoples are impatient bastards  :D If it puts meat on the table, it did its job at an entry level price. Thats not such a terrible thing is some circles.

Junk...take the $300 and buy a used 700 thats beat up.  Better to have a beat up 700 than a 710!  Hey...you asked.
I am not afraid to make an example out of you

Look for a package Savage for a similar price.

I agree totally.  The Savage or even Stevens would be better.  Also, it is fairly easy to switch barrels should you tire of the caliber you are using.  Many aftermarket stocks and trigers, plus accutrigger on the Savage.

I agree! Spend your money on a much better rifle like a Savage, Stevens, Ruger or Remington 700 ADL. I dislike 710s so much you would have to pay "me" to buy one! No offense to anyone who owns one, but I've held and fired more than one and I believe they're junk.

Let me put it this way...

Yugo's may get you from point a to point b, but I don't know anyone who drives one.

Take your time and shop around, you can find a New Savage Syn. Package(scope mounted and boresighted, same as the 710) for $30 +/- more.

With the 710 you may be getting the Remington name, but little else of value.  The Savage represents a platform upon which you can build a VERY nice rifle over time.(Lam. stock, upgraded scope, new trigger, and can even be rebarreled)  You can't get the aftermarket parts for the 710. Even if you'll keep it as is, it is a far cry nicer than the 710/770, and Savages have ALOT better reputation for accuracy here of late than even the Rem 700's, let alone the bastard child of the 700.
