Thinking of switching out the boring laminated wood stock on a Rem 597 rifle for a nice wood stock. Any tips or suggestions on how to do this without messing things up?

I've not done much with the 597. They are a fairly economical rifle and the 10/22 seems to have eclipsed them around here. Combined with the problems they had originally there are few around here.. I wouldn't it as a difficult project if a stock can be located.. That may well be the hard part. Contact a stock maker such as 'Wenigs' in Lincoln Missouri or 'reamer-rental-com' (they do a lot of laminates of various colors) and see what's available.. Google on gunstock makers perhaps for maore.. A link to a parts diagram is shown below.. Good luck!
