KNIGHT DISC ELITE VS T/C BLACK DIAMOND EXPRESS ???
« on: February 24, 2007, 09:20:44 AM »
Looking fo trade opinions...

My neighbor has a knight disk elite (Black & Silver) that he said he might want to trade for the T/C Black Diamond Express  (Blue & Camo) that I just got....this came up when I took it over to show it to him...I know nothing about the T/C Black Diamond...But I did see on a post that QuickD has two of them so that means they must be at least very good guns....

Oh, theyre both .50 caliber and they both would be scoped.

Thanks

I am biased, I like T/C. I also have not had the best experience with Knight disc rifles. I would rather go back to a side lock than shoot a knight.  JMHO  ;)

The BD XRs are nice, basic, no frills inlines, I upgraded the sights to a Williams WGRS on both of mine, one of em is the blued .50 XR with the camo stock, paid $200 for it from BPS when they had em on special, the other is a Super XR .45, both shoot Powerbelts very well with 110grFFF or 120grFF  777. My huntin partner has a standard .50 BD, his also shoot powerbelts extremely well, only he shoots Goex. 209 primers aren't legal here, so we use the musket nipple with RWS flangeless caps, works very well with a piece of surgical tuibing slipped over the cap to keep water out, something we have lots of here in Washington!! ::)

Tim,

What grain power belts work best in the .50 cal ?

Have you had any kind of a problem with blow back on yours ?

I just checked and it says "Black Diamond Express"...Is that the same thing as an XR....The barrel is 23.5" from the opening at the breech to the end of the muzzle, So I gues its a 22" barrel ?
It has the Real Tree Hardwoods camo  stock
Are these reated for 100 10r 150 grains of powder...777

I plan to use the remington 209-4 primers since  I have case of them  ;D  The gun my neighbor has is a Disk Elite , New, never fired, no scope or mounts, no iron sights...doesnt even have iron sights, just for the scope mounts

Thanks Again,
Eric

Eric,

Mine's an XR for Extended Range, barrel is 27" from the rear at the breech plug to the muzzle, all 3 of the powerbelts shoot good, but the 348gr shoot the best. It's rated for three 50g pyrodex pellets or 150gr of FF black powder and a 470gr conical, but I don't use any kind of pellet, loose powder is the only way to go for me, you can tune the load to be the most accurate and it costs less than pellets. Hodgdon has data for conversion to 777. I forgot, I also added a Limbsaver recoil pad. ;)

I guess I am going to go the other way here zmatt, the Knight Disk Elite is one of the very best Knight guns.  The Elite is a gun that was built by Knight during Tony Knights tenure as the Kinight boss... If I had the opportunity I would trade for the Knight in a heartbeat.  I think quickdtoo said it best with his description
Quote
The BD XRs are nice, basic, no frills inlines
on the other hand the Disk Elite was a real horse for Knight...  That Knight will also be a stainless steel model and in my opinion a step up from blued.

If the gun you have "express" is a 22" barrel it is comparable to the regular Black Diamond - the XR (extended range) has the longer barrel able to create a little more velocity...

Good luck with what ever decision you make....

I'm normally biased toward TC products since that is mainly what I use.  I currently have 4 black diamonds and I love them but in this situation I think the Knight may be the better deal.  The only Knight I have is a disk extreme I don't know how much different the elite is.  The black diamond has 2 faults; it has an exposed breech and it generates a considerable amount of blowback.  On my scoped black diamonds my scopes have been charred by blowback.  The knight uses a closed bolt which should protect from the elements and from what I've seen it doesn't have the blowback issue.  The fact that the knight is stainless and has a longer barrel would be appealing to many folks and resale value (should you decide it is not for you) would be much better on the Knight.  The only down side to the Knight is you need to buy the disks.  Although some see the disk as a plus since it is easier to handle than just a primer especially with gloved hands.  Either one would probably serve you well good luck with your decision.

I've got a BD Express now, and it shoots pretty well, less than 2" with a couple of different loads.  I've also have a couple of Knight Elites and Extremes.  All of my Knights have shot less than an inch with preferred loads.  I haven't been able to get accuracy that good out of the BD Express.  The diifference between the Extreme and Elite is the barrel for the most part.  Elites have a lighter contour barrel with no sights, while the Extreme has a regular contour barrel with sights.

As for the Disc's, I like them because they are easier to handle than the primers by themselves when you are doing a fast reload.  When shooting for practice, it doesn't make a difference to me.

You would be coming out way ahead money-wise if you can get an even trade for your BD.  Even though the Elite was dropped a couple of years ago, they are still selling on the net for $350-$450 NIB.  I bought my BD for $180 shipped, NIB.  The BD carrys a lot better than the Knight, as it's lighter and more compact, but I don't worry about that myself.

Thanks for the replies....The blow back thing has me worried since I'm left handed..."so my left eye is on the same side of of the gun as the exposed breech...even though  I always wear  shooting glasses when hunting.

I've never seen an inline with blowback that would remotely be a problem for your eye.  Look at what flinters deal with.

The Disc Elite is the better gun overall (I'd be surprised if the accuracy disappointed you, they have a solid reputation for that).  Whether it fits you, and you are willing to feed it DISCs, is for you to determine.

I picked up a Knight Disc Elite once and put it immediately back down after noticing it had no open sights.

Keep that ML smokin'
