Encore Turkey Barrels?
« on: February 21, 2007, 08:16:57 AM »
How do these shoot?  What about shoulder punishment?  I seriously contemplating setting mine up but would like some to hear pros and cons......

Thanks, PaLongshank

One of our local gun shops has had several of these barrels for sale used. One of my buds picked one up and it looks like it will pattern well but the recoil is pretty stout. They have two more used for $250 with the forarm and I kinda want one but I just can't pull the trigger (so to speak). I am also curious as to why there are so many used ones on the market.

I picked one up on ebay for a reasonable amount which included the camo stock & forearm.  Have yet to shoot it and see how it performs.  Its good that it accepts the mossy 500 choke tubes.

I have a 20" barrel. It patterns great with Federal #5 turkey loads, I just picked up some hevi shot to try. Recoil is stout but how often do you shoot a turkey gun. I really like how short and light the gun is.

i have used the 12 gauge t-barrell for the past 3 years with great results 6-gobblers 6-shots..
factory t-choke factory sights...
mine patterns great out to 45 yds. probably more but i havent patterned it past that, because i never take a shot past that range..
the shoulder has no trouble with the 3 inch shells( winchester h.v. #5s)

Recoil with just about any of the turkey loads is stout, especially when patterning the gun.  It isn't so bad when actually pulling the trigger on a critter, though.  The ones that I have shot did pretty well out to around 50 yards with #4's.

I have two,,,A 3 inch. version,, and a muzzleloader,,  The 3inch. shoots great, with a Preston Pitman choke, and a Rhino,,,,The muzzleloader,, shoots even better, using Hevi shot , and the same chokes,,  Puts most of my buddies patterns to shame...  Yes, they do kick a lot,  but after patterning,  i feel very confendent on my shot,  and your only going to shoot once,,,Of any gun out there,  this is my choise,,,,,,Bruce...
