Looks like you got one with nice wood there, my brothers shoots like a champ with heavy hardcast, 1/2" at 50 yds.  I think you'll like it.

Very nice Swampman. There is just something about a Marlin lever action ...

Swampman, you are going to enjoy that rifle.  Those guide guns are really fine hunting rifles particularly in the thick stuff.  I have one in 35 Remington that I really like and the more I use it the better I like it.  I guess my next one will be a 45-70, I already have one of the 1970s version 1895 with the straight stock and standard rifling that I really like.  I wish the guide guns came with the thinner forarms of the older rifles but that is easy enough to fix.  By the way did you win the knife you mentioned that you were in the raffle for in the other Knife forum.

Still waiting for the raffle to finish up.  That's a Nessmuk style knife a friend made me out of an old saw blade.  It will shave like a razor.

A nice bit of timber there, mine is as plain a fence post. :P

Lose that front sight hood and rear sight and put a rear peep sight on it and you're good to go.

Light loads under a cast slug are a heap of fun and cheap to shoot too. 10grns of W231 under a 300grn cast slug will give about 1100fps and 800 ft/lbs!!
Then simply stoke it up with some mutant ninja loads for serious hunting.

What's the easiest way to remove the sight hood without damaging it?

It just slides off.
Push it firmly from behind and it will slip off towards the muzzle.
You may need to spring it apart gently.
Mind your fingers though. It's pretty easy to jag a finger or thumb as it slides past that front bead......yowie!!

I  think these guns look neater wthout that hood and its less likely to get caught up in the brush as well.

The hood slid right off.  It does look much better.

Here's the Leupold 2X7 scope I added.  I've slid it forward some since this picture was taken.

You should consider using an XS scout base to move the scope further foward.  Your 2-7X33 has 4.9" eye relief so wont be a problem.  My set up is the same but my scope sits flush with the rear of the receiver.  Only takes one whack on the eye brow.

I like the Scout Concept using a .308 bolt action, but I don't care for it on a levergun.
