Good News Alabama !!!!!!!!
« on: February 22, 2007, 05:04:04 PM »
I just got my memorandum from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources,Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division.

Alabama's 2006 -07 hunting season was the first on record in which there were no fatal firearms or treestand related incidents reported to the hunter education office.

From 1973 through the mid 80's hunting related fatalities often occurred more than 10 times per season. Blaze orange became mandatory in 1986 and led to a decline in the hunting incident rate. Mandatory Hunter education was implemented in 1993 and led to a further decline in the incident rate.

Now for the bad part. Nine non-fatal firearms incidents have been reported since the opening of dove season in September, and only four of the nine occurred as a result of deer hunting.
Eight non-fatal tree stand incidents have been reported since the opening of archery deer season on October 15, 2006.

Thanks guys and ladies, for keeping it safe out there. There is still room for improvement, though.

Man that's great.  Education is the key.  Glad it's working.
I took it the course when I was 9 (in FL) and thuroughly enjoyed it!

The only negative that came from it are the "negatives" in my check book cuz it made a gun/hunting nut out of me. ;D
