Well I finally shot the 243 Handi for the first time
« on: March 12, 2007, 05:33:42 AM »
Well I finally shot the 243 Handi for the first time. The second 2 shots of the first bore sighted group seemed to have a tight pattern. After trying to dial the scope and rifle closer to the bull the groups just shot all over the place. Those results were expected for the new rifle. I really just plinked around and shot 37 rounds. I was shooting the Federal 100 gainers that I brought at Wal-Mart for less than $10 a box. I cleaned the barrel good when I got home with some bore cleaner on a patch followed by some dry patches. Then used a oiled brush and finished with some dry patches. The rifle’s trigger was good and the rifle felt good while shooting. The rifle kicked pleasantly, but probably more than I thought it would. The stock is the laminate stock from NEF. The scope is a Bushnell Banner 3-9X. I plan on shooting another 60 rounds or so at camp next month and then I hope to sight it in better.

Those Federal Power-Shocks seem to shoot excellent out of most 243 Handis, but all are a little different. But at least you got out and were able to shoot some 8) The bore of your rifle may be a bit rough and need some polish or a little longer break in. Keep it up and save that brass! Federal brass is a little softer than some, and you might not be able to get as many reloads out of it, but it's easy to work with and I have shot some of my best groups with 1x and 2x fired Federal brass.

Mine was all over the place when it was new also. Try not to move the scope to much as long as you are close. It may take some time to find the right round but she'll come in. Good luck,   TVC 15
BTW reloads are the way to go.
