.223 bulk bullits.
« on: March 12, 2007, 03:26:32 PM »
Ok, I just was out in the garage and relized that i have a lot of catching up to do for pdog season. I have about a thousand primed cases that need to be loaded. I am planning on using IMR 4198 or Varget. I have had sucess with both of these powders with 40 gr noslers and 52gr speer hps. I have seen that speer has bulk packs at sportsmans warehouse. I beleive that they were 52grners. Anybody seen any bulk bullits at gander mntn, sportsmans or basspro? I would like to try this out because it would be a lot cheaper. let me know fellas. I need you on this one. I really dont want to order anything but if i have to i will. Thanks.
Henry.

I'm using 26 grn of varget pushing a 50 grn midway Dogtown bullet. it outshoots me and the bullets are cheap. (not that that's really saying that much  :-\ )

Being a fan of AR 15s, I go thru a mess of bulk .22 bullets each year. For these rifles, I settled on Midway for bulk Winchester 55 gr fmj/cann for plinking, practice and polishing bores, and Remington 55 gr hp/cann for p-dogs or anything other time I need to kill something. H-335 used with both.

I can't really help you groupwise. I shoot off a fencepost or a fist on a car hood or just plain offhand so I don't know if my "groups" count. My crosshairs dance all over the place, but I can generally put 3 rounds under 2 inches unless it's windy or the post is shaky. then they open up a lot. one day I hope to get a rest and find out just how good or bad my load is.

Hornady 50 gr' spire points in the 250-count packs have given me excellent groups out of a standard-weight barrel in a Handi'.    look at a few of the vendors to get an idea who has the best deal on 'em.

i load them in R-P brass with 27.1 grains of bulk WC-846 bought from www.patsreloading.com when they come to the Medina, Ohio gun shows.     they also have primers, etc.

hope it helps a little.

Greyling, those groups sound good enough to me! ;D Prarie dogs are fairly good sized targets, 10-12 inches so that load would also work!

Safetysheriff, Can you only buy those bulk bullets at gunshows? It would make sense if they sold em at the retail stores but who knows. Either way, we have a gunshow that comes through denver once a month so i might try there.

Thanks for the help and input guys! Its appriciated!

+1 with safetysheriff,I've benn shooting the 50gr vmax, picked up a box of 50sxsp,they shot so well I ordered 3 boxes in the 250ct.Also been shooting them loaded down with blue dot and around 2700fps makes a nice target load.
