Need Handi rifle bases.
« on: February 26, 2007, 01:32:23 PM »
I was wondering if any of you gentlemen/women could recomend a place where i can buy the handi rifle scope base. After good advise from this forum, I am thinking of mounting a Bushnel Banner 6 - 24 * 40 in Burris Zee rings. Do I need the high rings, or can I use the medium rings ???

Thanks in advance :D

The best base is the H&R, but they won't ship outside the US. The Weaver #82 will work, but it has some disadvantages, they are pointed out in the FAQs. You may be better off just ordering the Leupold base from Midway Norge, you can easily cut more cross slots in it if you need em.

I was not aware that i could use those bases. Cutting/milling a few more slots is no problem ;D But what do you guyes think about the rings. Medium height or the highest Burris rings?

Depends on the scope and hammer clearance, a lot of scopes require high rings for hammer clearance, others will work with with mediums. With a little hammer modification, even lows will work, see the Low Profile Hammer Modification thread in the FAQs. You can use a dremel to take just the tip of the hammer off to help with clearance, I grind it down so it's flush with the top of the hammer extension.

A scope that doesn't have a big power ring or one that has a space between the power ring and ocular bell is the easiest to mount low. You can see in the pic below what I mean, if the scope was mounted fore or aft of where it is now, it would require high rings, those are medium Burris Signature Zees.

Thanks a lot. Nice picture/gun :D Think i will try with the medium rings. Can always trade them in for high ones if I have to.
