Weaver Classic V-10 Silver 2-10x38
« on: March 21, 2007, 10:27:36 AM »
I've got a new Tikka T3 LSS LH 30-03 sprg and am wanting to mount a Weaver Classic V-10 Silver 2-10x38 to it. Any Thoughts on this? Has anyone owned one of these scopes? I know that Weaver, Simmons and Redfield are now all owned by Meade and that They're supposedly making good glass now but want some unbiased oppinions.

I had a Weaver V-10 2-10x38 in gloss.  Now I don't.  It was a bad scope.  No matter what I did it was like looking down a tube.  Try a Sightron SII.

I don't have a 2-10 but I do have a few others and I have always been very happy with Weaver. Good, clear glass and a good price too.
Perhaps you got a lemon? It happens with all brands....

I have two V10's mounted on rifles.  I had mounted one on a rifle in 1993 and I was impressed with it.  So when I needed another scope in 1994 I bought another V10.  It was on the rifle I carried this last deer season.  The scope stayed true, and never fogged up.

I've had several V10's and loved them all.  I like Weaver scopes in general, one of the best deals in glass you can get, IMHO.  I will say that it's a little short in eye relief at 10X, something to keep in mind on a light 30-06 rifle, if you crawl the stock.  I've used several Sightron's as well, and can recommend them as first class all the way.  They do cost more than the Weaver does though.

Thanks. I'm going ahead and ordering it. I was looking into the Nikko-Sterling line but am fearful of getting stuck with a bad scope brand and bad customer service. THe Weaver V10 will meet my needs because I hunt in Oklahoma with thick underbrush and have the occasional need to clear a long field, as well as I needed a scope well under $200, after buying the Tikka LSS LH 30-06 sprg my budget was significantly less, but well worth it, I love that rifle. As far as the recoil goes with shorter eye relief in 10x I'm also getting a Hi-Vis X-Coil which Imho is better than the Limbsaver and right now on sale for $30. I'm also likely investing in a Dead Mule recoil reducer to mount in the buttstock. Maybe try out Remington Managed-Recoil ammo as well.
