In my area of the southern Piedmont of Virginia, we are finally getting coyotes in some numbers. My mailbox is at a narrow point between two large acreages of thick brush. My neighbor has seen a pack of about 6 coyotes crossing at the mailbox and coming onto his farm. They seem to have a knack of showing up when he can't get his hands on a gun. Another neighbor and I are planning on getting up close and personal with the coyotes in the brush. I have seen a number of posts talking about using shotguns. I recall Barnes in his Cartridges of the World, talking about shooting at a coyote with #4 buck and not hitting it. What shot sizes have you used in close encounters and what were the results?
