Questions on 45 colt cases and bad burnt marks
« on: March 14, 2007, 01:45:45 AM »
i just shot my uberti this past weekend. i bumped out all the brass from shooting last night to clean it up and notice that on one side of the case i had really bad flash burn marks. checked all my casing and they all were the same. Only on one side of the case. this was factory loaded winchester cowboy loads. Can anyone tell my why this is? Is it from not having a square casing. not enough crimp or to much. or worse is it a gun problem?

Cowboy loads are low pressure and low velocity.  The low pressure is not blowing out the case for a tight fit in the cylinder.  That's common with those types of loads.  When you step up to standard factory loads or 8.5 or 9 gr of Unique and a cast bullet, most of that will go away.  Don't worry, just enjoy that gun!  44 Man

Yep, from low pressure loads. I wouldn't be too concerned with it.

That in itself doesn't necessarily mean they don't shoot accurately.  I load two levels for my 45 Colts.  One is at the bottom end and gives only 680 f/s out of a 7.5" barrel or 820 out of a 16" barrel.  I have the same thing you ae experiencing but the load also is a one hole load at 15 yards from the pistol and I can keep 5 rounds in 1.5" at 50 with my Trapper.  With my hunting loads, the cases are sealing the chamber and I don't get the carbon on the cases.
