Gotta love the 45-70!!!!!!
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:35:09 AM »
Hi Guys,

Just joined here and wanted to see if anyone else had a lotta fun with their 45-70? I got the Buffalo Classic and I LOVE THIS THING. I shoot from a wheelchair and still have no problems with even the very large loads. Anyone else have any experience with this?

I have 3 of the 45-70's. I have a Shiloh Sharps. T/C Encore Rifle and a Marlin Lever action 45-70. I love them all..

Welcome to GBO!! ;) Yup, the .45-70 is a real keeper, everyone should have at least one, preferably 3 or 4!! I have 2 Handis and 2 Buff Classics, one rechambered to .45-120, they're a real hoot to shoot!! Check out the NEF/H&R Centerfire forum up in the NEF/H&R Talk section, lots of BC/Handi 45-70 shooters there. ;D

Welcome, Dustyvance.  My second Marlin was a .45-70 and its been a fun gun.  It really does go from "mild to wild".  My 300g plinkers at .22LR speeds generate half the recoil of a .30-30 factroy 170g load yet are exceedingly accurate.  My hunting loads have accounted for a buck mulie and a 6x6 ull at 197 and 213 yards respectively.  460g of hardcast at 1812fps is my "Rhino Blaster" load and generates around 48 foot-pounds of recoil.  These loads are awesome in their destructive power.  I have rifles that shoot flatter but none that are more fun.

I agree with you guys on the fun factor; I have rifles that shoot a lot faster, but you can't beat the 45-70 for all-around fun.
