Encore 270 WSM
« on: March 30, 2007, 10:59:31 PM »
I am thinking of having a 13 or 14" barrel made for my encore. Has anyone tried it yet and how is the recoil, velocity, ext.?
Thanks
Matt

T/C and SSK say the WSM's are not safe in an Encore @ Factory pressures and breechface thrust. I'd recommend you consider the .270 Win. Peter Pi of Cor-Bon also uses a .270 Weatherby!

Too, I believe that a 13" barrel would be terribly inefficient with a large capacity case like the .270 WSM.  The muzzle blast and flash would be awful and the high muzzle turbulence could not help accuracy.   For that barrel length a 7-08 or .270 Redding might work a lot better, as would the .270 WCF.  A 'better' length for the latter if you can stand it would be 15" as in the factory Encore barrels.

Thanks for the info. I will just stick to my 257 rob barrel then. I just wanted another matched pair, encore pistol and bolt action rifle.
