« on: February 25, 2007, 04:59:35 PM »
;D Picked up my Ruger#1-S in 9.3X74R . Can't wait to test fire only thing holding me back is the -37c which won't make for good bench rest testing.
Have couple of pics to post, enjoy!

SWEEET!  I love the Ruger #1's.  Best looking factory rifle made.  Nothing else has class that these rifles do.  Let us know how it does, I've been debating getting one--no earthly reason for it, but that hasn't stopped me yet.   ;D

Rockchucker.
Where did you get that rear extension ring, I need two of those for two of my #1.
Nice looking rifle. Sofar I have not seen one. -37 where are you. The winter games in Whitehorse had -36 yesterday.

I am a little baffeled about the 20" barrel on that rifle. That is a bit strange.
A 22"or even a 24" would not be out of place. Or am I mistaken?

Pretty hard to beat a Ruger #1 single shot. I just can't get enough of them. My four are all old models from the 80 tees. bought them used.

Yes from Whitehorse!
Ring set came from Wholesale sports from your neck of the woods.
#1-s comes with a 22" barrel just like the #1-s 45/70.
Just chomping at the bit waiting for some warmer weather to go out and test fire the 9.3x74R. I'd settle for a balmy -20c with no wind!
If your into Ruger single shots you just might like my Custom #3 with #1 wood and a full loop lever chambered in 50 AK. or my #1 in 405 Win.
Nothing like a nice Ruger #1.

Thanks for the reply. Have to check into WSS. They are right around the corner.

Here is my revamped #3 in 375Win. This rifle is deadly accurate. I adapted the Weaver bases and used Burris -Z rings with the excentric bushings. There were no provisions for the 1/4 rib. #1 stock, modified leaver.

I go fishing to Atlin every year for two weeks. We fish on the Taku river.

I am working on two others #1's. One is going to be a 7x57, I got a used factory barrel with an unfired bore. The other one is a 257 Roberts.

Fred M,
FYI - When I bought my first No. 1 a few years back, I had eye-relief issues using a Leupold 2x7.  Scope was a bit
too far forward for proper eye relief.   I contacted Ruger customer service and we traded my 'issue' rings for a set of factory offset rings - at no charge other that mailing back originals.  Gained about 1/2" - which made a big difference.

Nice grab!  I'm debating what the next #1 will be for me. (3 currently)  Really want a an "H" model in .405 but have considered this chambering as well but in the "H" model.
Planning for one in the new .375 Ruger also which you know is coming as a cataloged model.  (There's a special run in .this chambering w/ engraving coming later this yr)  :-X ;)

I got 2 Ruger #1's now in 416 Rigby and 458 Win Mag, gonna try to get one in .450-400. I don't know anything about the 9.3-74R so I will wait a while to get one. As far as I am concerned the Ruger#1 is the best rifle made. Just my humble opinion. LATER

I aggree 100%.

Airsporter.
I have a set of double offset rings on the way.  The #3 with my modified Weaver bases are working fine too, but they are lots of work to make and put on.  I have the same system on my 25-06 and I have no complains about it. They don't look as nice as the 1/4 rib but there is a considerable weight saving.

Ditto on the best rifle made. Also the best looking. I'm trying to find a reason why I need a 45-70 because I know where there is a brand spankin' new one for $694.
