Bolt handle making contact with scope????

  Got some medium Warne QD rings for my CZ550FS and Weaver 3-10x40 GrandSlam scope.  When the scope handle comes back, it makes contact with the rubber magnification ring.  Doesn't make a ton of contact, but it definately takes some extra effort to bring the bolt back.  Should I just take the Dremel out and take off 1/100 of an inch so it no longer makes contact and then cold blue the bare steel?  Just live with it?  Any other options?

Elkslayer, before I did that I believe I would look into the ring ht. 1st. and see about a set of rings just a little higher, scope rings are always a cheaper salution than a new bolt for the rifle and If you ever was willing to sell the rifle the ground bolt may be a reason for not getting a fair price.  JIM

To follow up on JHM suggestion.

Higher rings will probably mean a higher comb height. (Your eye should be looking through the scope when the rifle is mounted without any movement of your head.) This too is an easy fix. Get some foam rubber and duct tape and raise the comb height the necessary distance.

You may also try changing mount systems. With the CZ's that may be a problem though. The Europeans commonly use much higher rings than we do and this is a common problem. The best fix is to alter the bolt handle to allow the lowest mounting possible. The simplest is to install a set of high rings or a scope with a smaller eyepiece.

Since I dropped over $70 on the rings, I decided to go a slightly different route.  The bolt touches the oversized rubber magnification adjustment  and after working the bolt a dozen times, it wasn't really noticeable.  So I am first going to try a little light sanding on that rubber.  I think I should be able to get the bolt to clear without anyone being able to notice what I did.

An easier fix might be to undo the scope rings, lift out the scope and then put a shim of proper thickness in the bottom of the rings!

You could also undo the scope bases and shim under there!

 Question:
Does the scope sit as far back in the rings as it can.Would moving the scope rearward help?

  I will play with the scope in the rings...  Did it a little but I will do some more investigation before I do anything permanent.  Shimming inside the rings???  Always heard of shimming the bases, not the rings...  What kind of material would work for shimming inside the scope?????

Jim:  They sell shimming material I believe at brownels, and yes we used to have to do it years ago but you don't hear it being done vary much anymore, If you have a tool and die shop around you you might give them a call and I'm sure they would have some, just figure out how thick a piece you need and lay it in the bottom of the rings.   JIM

Shimming inside a scope ring is not the best idea. The ring will no longer be round.. The shim material will also move the scope left and right a bit as well as up unless it's perfectly centered. Under the bases is the proper place, although with the large rubber adjustment ring, I'd be tempted to just bob that a bit to gain the clearance I needed./

Some scopes don't work well on all rifles......Maybe a different scope on this particular rifle might be the way to go?

....but I LOVE the Weaver Grand Slam!!!  I think after playing around more with it, that I will do the easiest thing; lightly sand the rubber mag. adjustment.  Looks like if I take off the thickness of a sheet or two of paper, I will be in business.

After about an hour of light sanding I got bored...got out the dremel.  Two minutes later I put the scope on and TA DA!  Now a little evening out with the sandpaper and no one will be able to tell.
