Bushnell--Good Choice?
« on: February 27, 2007, 10:31:09 AM »
I think I have settled on mounting a Bushnell Elite 3200 5-15x40 (non-firefly) on a .223 Savage 12FVSS for prairie dogs and varmints. I was just wondering if anybody had any experience w/this particular scope. I think it is a good choice, but always appreciate some reassurance from people in the know. Thanks.

I've used the 2-7's, 3-9's, and 4-12's and have loved everyone of them.  You made a great choice for your gun.  Most of the time, there isn't much practical use for any power over 15x due to mirage and being able to see your "shakes".

I want to get the elite 3200 10x for my 7mm weatherby mag,it is my reach out and layeth the hammer down rifle and I use it to shoot  across bean/corn fields so I really don't use it for 100yds and under so I really don't need a variable, these scopes are supposed to be the real deal for the price.
beer,check ammo,check gun,DAMMIT,I knew I forgot somethin!!

I spent the extra $ for the 4200 and I'm glad I did.  I actually wish I would have on some of the other scopes I own. The optic Zone has a REALLY good deal on the 4200 4-16x40.  Check it out.  I have a Savage 12 BVSS in .22-250.  It is the most accurate "out of the box" rifle I have ever owned.

I have a Bushnell Trophy 4-12x40 and love it.  I almost spent the extra $$ for the elite, but have been very happy with the Trophy.  I've got it on a .223.
Ruger 10/22, Ruger GP100 .357, Marlin 336 .35 Rem, NEF Handi Rifle .223, Remington 7600 .30-06, Browning BPS 12 ga, Remington 870 12 ga, Iver Johnson Champion 16 ga.

Would you recommend a higher power for woodchucks?  Or is the 12x enough?  My son and I have Trophys on other guns and are satisified.

I think that 12x would be fine for chucks out to whatever "sane" range you want to shoot.  They are a pretty fat target  ;D.
