Found It - Breech Plug for T/C G2 Contender 209x50 cal.
« on: March 01, 2007, 02:55:34 PM »
To All, who tried to help me with my quest, THANK YOU.

I called TC and spoke with Diane today.  A very nice lady.  When I explained to her what I was looking for she told me that they had it and the price.  When I asked her again if it was for a Contender G2 50 cal muzzleloading barrel, she said, no it was for a 45 cal.  Long story short, after she actually looked at the "blueprint" and materials list for the G2 50 cal barrel, she finally realized that the breech plug for the 50 cal was indeed different.  If was funny.  She kept saying that she has been doing this job for 5 years, and this has never happened before.  Oh well, there has to be a first for everything, and I guess I was the first to ask for this breech plug.

So here's the scoop.  If you need a replacement breech plug for your Contender G2 209x50 cal muzzleloading barrel, you need to ask for PART NUMBER 55401-503.  It will set you back $19.00, plus $5.00 shipping.

If any of you are a NYS Hunter Ed Instructor, or any other state's Hunter Ed Instructor, this item is available under their Instructor Discount Program, at a substantial savings.  Ask for Darlene (a very nice person).

Best Wishes,  Joe

T/C's Phone Number is:  1-603-332-2333

A Special Thank You to Diane and Darlene for their help today.

Why do you hate TC products so much? Is it because you shoot that inferior BPI crap and you are jelous since when does lifetime warranty cover a lost breachplug.

bigblock455, the breach plug is not a lifetime warranty item. That is why they make replacement's , just like nipples are replaced after they wear out.
Go back to the CVA site and don't come here looking to bait others into your little game!!!

I dunno.. my bpi junk sure shoots those patterns that only tc can get with a scope and sabot.

Ive owned TC before so knock on me, i just choose not to drool and molest them like some others do.  Hes been trying to find an replacement for quite a while now. Shows theres some kind of flaw in tc's production line.

BTW.. this is inline section. not TC only.

Guys. Guys. Let's not blow this thing out of proportion.  There 's nothing wrong with my TC G2.  I just wanted to have a replacement breech plug on hand, just in case my original become corroded.  I'm kinda new to black powder shootng, and spare parts are just my way of coverng all of the bases.  I did get concerned when I could not find a replacement through all of the usual sources.  Frankly, I'm glad I called TC directly.  First off, I exposed an item that got over looked by someone at TC when they listed the parts for the new 209 x 50 cal barrel for the G2.  That's a good thing.  Now anyone looking for a replacement breech plug in the future will not have the problems I had.
As far as my TC shooting, this barrel is as accurate as any.  I am amzed at the accuracy this barrel has when shooting pyrodex pellets and saboted bullets.  No complaints on this end! When I can get all shots touching, those are groups, I know, some centerfire shooters would be happy with.
Best Wishes, Joe

You are correct, this is the inline section and not TC only. But there is no need for you to make your post's trying to put down the T/C's. I don't go to the CVA site and trash you guns. If you took the time to find out why htrjv wanted another breach plug we would not be having this conversation. So take your attitude back to the CVA site. Not wanted here.

i wasnt bashing. i thought something went wrong with his breechplug hole being enlarged. I didnt know until i found his other thread about wanting a spare. Which reminds me that i need to order a spare for my rifle. And i have no attitude, the other guy called my bpi junk so i just reminded him that there will always be an underdog that can hang with the big boys. Each and every gun company out there will always have some kind of issue and everyone needs to remember that. But as for me bashing tc here, i did no such thing.

Yup, agreed. I dont mean to sound as if im putting down another company, i wasnt in this case. So lets just keep it muzzleloaders and help eachother when a problem arises. Bashing other brands will not help any newcomers looking for info/help.

Yea I have seen those patterns you talk about one day after repalcing sights you tell us that your groups have shrunk from 3" to 1"
then the next week you post some 3 1/2 " groups so which is it? You are a internet marksman.

1" with 385 greatplains conical. 3 1/2" when i was testing some home cast 240 grain .44 sabots. Ive gotten those down to 1/4" groups@50. I need a nonwindy day to test them out more. Maybe if you would pay attention to my posts, you could understand the difference in my shot patterns. Been following my different shots with different primers? I dont need to make up stories on the internet, I'd only be hurting myself by making up stories... Are you just complaining because you cant get your scoped rifle into 1" groups @ 100?

Even in 15-20MPH wind i was able to shoot 1 1/4" groups @ 100 yards but only achived it with store bought 250 grain SST sabots. The home cast flatnosed bullets look like they are only good for short range target practice.

Its called testing different bullets.loads/primers, tod, you wont know how each one will act until you try them. Stop being a goober, If you dont care for my posts or any testing ive done, keep quiet and go read something else.
