Encore Slug Gun
« on: January 11, 2007, 03:34:43 PM »
Sorry if this is a topic that has been done. Looking for info on Encore slug guns, 12 or 20. Has anyone got experience with these and what was it? Was there a better slug? How accurate/distance? Any reccommended sights? Thanks

I have a 24" 12ga slug barrel and love it!  I've got it mounted on a ProHunter frame, with the thumbhole Flextech stock. Recoil is stiff but very managable..  Mine likes the Hornady SST's and the Federal Barnes 300gr. slugs.     1.5 to 2 in groups with both, free handed @ 100 yards. Could do better from bags.   I have a  Leupold FxII  1-4 scope mounted on it . I feel its perfect for the set up.  I have shot 3 deer so far with it all 1 shot Kills..  The SST's perfom great !

Thanks for the reply. Have picked up a 20 ga slug barrel and will add a 2x7 Nikon. Have no experience with Hornady SSTs but certainly will give them a try.

what is important to consider on the encore slug gun is that the trigger is and can be made to be very good.  alot of the shotguns with slug barrels just have terrible triggers.  i've had marlin and mossberg bolt action slug guns and both have terrible triggers compared to the encore.  i couldn't imagine a semi auto or pump shotgun being much better.  the trigger alone with help a ton with your accuracy.
