Lee Sizer
« on: February 27, 2007, 05:41:00 AM »
Anyone have any experience with the Lee Sizer?? This one uses a messy "Allox" bullet lube that is spread all over the projectiles and dried before running them through a sizing die.  Does this lube ever dry??  Can it be wiped off of the bullet after seating into a cart. case??  It seems very messy and sticky, will it foul the action and magazine of my firearm??  Is it worth purchasing a sizing press and tools to use standard lubes??  This was only about $15, any comments???

I have Lee sizers in .257, .266, .308, .309, .311, .314, .358, & .457. Mine all work very well. In my opinion the nose - first sizing tends to give more concentric results than many lubrisizers that cost a lot more.

I'm not real fond of Liquid Allox, although it's not bad if you are only target shooting and can keep it clean.

You should know that you can hand lube your bullets - seat to the first driving band (or to the top of the gas check if you prefer), apply lube of your choice(I use machine or automotive grease) by hand, seat to full depth and wipe clean. Works well, easier than it sounds and leaves you more money for molds and other real necessities.

Also, your ammunition is clean. Hope this helps.

I run my cast bullets through the sizing die prior to lubing. Custom sizes from Lee are around $25. The die sizes and installs gas checks flawlessly. The lube dries it just takes awhile. I cast, size and lube well in advance of when I plan to load and shoot. I have coffee cans full of bullets ready to load as well as cans full of bullets that need to be sized or lubed etc. I shoot cast bullets in gas autoloaders. If you give the lube a chance to dry it works very well.

I have no desire to buy another sizing or lubing setup. The Lee system works very well for me. If you want to cast, lube and load in the same day it may not be the system for you.

Alox is a little messy but works well, I suppose you could clean the bullet after you loaded it but I don't and it dosn't gum up anything, the sizer dies work well to I like them and have shot thousands of rounds  lubed, sized, and loaded with Lee equipment. 8)

To simplify and clean up the process of using the Lee sizer and Lee Liquid Alox try the following. First place your bullets in a margarine tub and spray with Hornady's One Shot spray sizing lube and let them dry. Pre lubing the bullets allows them to go through the sizer without galling or leading the sizing die. Now push them though the die and when done withthe batch  lube them in another margarine tub with the Lee Liquid Alox. Either spread them out on a sheet of wax paper to dry or if you want use tweezers to stand them up on the wax paper to dry. It's best to give them about two or three days to dry thoroughly. They will always have that "tacky" feeling to them but work well in almost all applications. The Lee sizing dies and their loquid alox make sizing and lubing about as quick and easy as it gets. Hope this helps, Tom.

As I stated, AI use the sizer with unlubed bullets. They come out sized properly and the die doesn't foul. The bullets that I have that are lubed are bone dry and are not tacky.
