Win. 94 26 inch with LE ammo???
« on: February 18, 2007, 06:30:36 PM »
Hi Guys,

I have a 26 inch barrel Winchester Model 94 and was wondering if anyone had any experience shooting the new Hornady LeverEvolution 30-30 ammo in a gun like this?  In addition, do any of you know how they perform in regular guns like the 336 and 94's with plain old 20 inch barrels.  I was thinking of getting a box of these to just try them out to see how they shoot.  I've read a few threads that stated they were impressed with the performance of these new loads and thought I would check in with you guys before I spent any hard earned money on ammo I don't need.

Thanks for your time.

JT.

Down in recall information  There is about Their ammo for 30-30 being recalled.
It was posted last Aug. They may have corrected their problem. There is a web page
you can go to to check. Good Luck  Marv.

Is that the legacy model 94 your tyalking about , i always wanted one of those. I hjave heard alot of good things about the LE ammo in the marlin rifles and i would think that they would be just great in your winchester  with the 26" . Buy a box and please  give us a range report . Good luck Tanoose

A man that I work with has a Savage model 219. This is a breakdown singleshot, it's chambered in 30-30 Win. and has a 26" barrel.
He had told me before about how well it shot with the Hornady Leverevolution ammo. This past weekend his nephew came over and had a rifle chambered in 300 Win. Mag. He was shooting at a target about the size of a basketball at close to 300 yards. He said his nephew shot all around the target with the Magnum, he said he wanted to try it with his little 30-30 and hit it on the first shot. The nephew said "WELL, I guess you could hit it with anything if you knew how far it was."

There is a whole lot of truth to what his nephew said.

Good Shooting!

The new Hornaday LeverEvolution ammo in 30-30 shoots more like 308 ammo and that's what they designed it for.  There were some problems initially with feeding in some of the older lever actions not designed to handle the oal of the new ammo.

I know my Winchester 94s are fairly sensitive to oal, so yours may be too.  The accuracy and velocity however may improve.  You will get a bit more velocity from the longer barrel and that will enhance the new LE ammo in 30-30 to perform more like a 308.  Accuracy will be rifle dependent but the LE ammo shoots flatter and may be more accurate in yoru rifle - you just have to try it.  Mikey.
