What Barrel to What Frames?

Hello,
I'm new to TC pistols and I have a few  questions and looking for info. I have a couple of the newer Encores (7-08 and .223) but I came across a nice clean 10" .357  OCT barrel TC with a 83XXX serial number for 250 bucks. I do not think it has been modified in any way. I would like to pick-up a couple additional barrels, I know an Encore barrel will not fit in any way, but what TC barrels will? Does anybody know where I could find this info?

Someone else might go into greater detail but Contender barrels fit Contender frames, Encore barrels only Encore frames, and the TCR barrels fit TCR frames.  You cannot crossmatch the barrels and frames.  Sounds like you will now have to get you a Contender frame. :lol:   That would make me very happy!

Dick: A complete Contender with a serial #83,XXX, would have been mfg in the early part of 1978.  So it isn't one of the easy open frames (easy open frames introduced in 1981- Ser#'s after 195,000).  The pre G2 frame also has a toggle hammer.   The major difference as to   wheather different barrels will work, comes down to the older barrels had a solid locking lug & the newer barrels have a split lug. You can contact T/C & they will send you the split lugs FREE & they're not hard to install.    Also if you can buy a complete Contender for $250.00 and its in good shape I'd jump on it.....Hope this info helps you out...Ken :D

I had a 42xxx frame from 1973 or so that would accept all barrels, flat bottom, step bottom, and both flat and split locking lugs.  It didn't open as easily as the "easy open" variety, but it worked and killed deer in several different calibers in both handgun and carbine configurations, plus prairie dogs and woodchucks, not to mention squirrels.  I sold it recently for more than I paid for it to a friend to make up into a .30-30 carbine for his son, and if they will develop their hunting skills so they see a deer, it will kill again.
