My son got his first hog tonight
« on: March 04, 2007, 04:47:31 PM »
My 12 year old shot this shoat tonight right at sunset. We were in a stand over a feeder on private property we have access to. The hog was around 30 yards away. He took him with a 700 in 30-06, I cut the stock down. He's small for his age but the Remington reduced recoil ammo in 30-06 recoils like a .243, the hog dropped and stayed down where he was shot.

LOL,I have no idea what he calls the expression he has on his face in the pic with his rifle.

Nice looking pig the boy brought down, Congratulations to him. This will probably be the first of many, and praise to his Father for bringing the boy along in the hunting world, This should anchor him to the hunting world for sure......Joe......

Congratulations to your son. Obviously he will be a good hunter and carry on the tradition. Isn't it GREAT?

I remember when my 11 year old grand son got his first hog with his bow. I was so proud I was ready to bust. He is 20 now and in the Army Airborne and I am super proud of him for that as well.

Here's the photos of his hog if you care to look at them. http://www.qsl.net/wa1urb/boar.html

And I just looked in QRZ and you live 64 miles south of us, so I guess we both picked the same state as well.

Although its a small hog, I'm surpirsed at the shoulder shot, especially with the reduced loads.  Those hogs have armor plated shoulders! :D

Yes, congrats to your son.  But also congrats to you too, as you are molding your son into a fine, responsible hunter. ;)
