Why Do You Patch?

Got to wondering, why do you go through the effort to patch a bullet?  I do it primarily for a hunting bullet but there are other reasons I'd like to hear about.

That says it all.  Good groups for sure.  I haven't got that good of groups yet but tht doesn't keep me from trying.  Noticed your patches looked to be pretty white.  Are you lubing?  Also, is that with black powder or smokeless?

Those loads come and go from day to day. some days there in next day there out with the same load.
That load I shot with my .50/90 Shiloh from the 200 yard line and it will hold a good group with just about most anything I use in it, it's more consistent then the .40's and .45's I have.
I use nothing but Black powder in my rifles, my Sharps have never been fired with smokeless powder.
That load was 118 grains of 1F Goex with a Br2 primer with a paper wad over the flash hole.
Bullet is one of my swaged 700 gr patched to .001 under bore diameter.
Lube is what I make, a 1/4" grease cookie cut with the case mouth seated on top of a .023 wad cut from a frozen Pizza box, I dont lube the Patch because it might not release from the bullet.
One .032 wad over the lube cookie and a news print wad under the bullet, the bullet is seated 1/4" in the case.
The case has a slight taper crimp just enough to hold the bullet from falling out but it can still be spun with the fingers and with a little effort It can be pulled out.

Jacketed bullet performance at cast bullet prices.

My .35 Whelen with 280 grain paper-patched bullets can be loaded for under $5/box.  That's full power Whelen too, not anemic, light-load-to-prevent-leading, cast bullet loads. 

I think I will time how long it takes to stand a bunch of bullets in a pan, pour melted lube in the pan, then punch them out of the pan.  Then I'll time how long it takes to patch the same number of bullets. 

My guess is, it takes longer to paper patch, but not THAT much longer.  I suppose I could include time spent heat treating cast bullets and putting on gas checks. 

...then I'll subtract all the time I spend patching bullet WHILE doing something else.  With a stack of patches, a pile of bullets, and a wet sponge, I don't need to be anchored to a lubersizer in some dingy basement.

I like the history of the pp bullet.  I like the looks of the pp bullet.  nuff said

I like to have as much control over myshooting as is possible.The extra work is no deterant.
with PP bullets,I design and make the bullet;and make the ammunition.I also did all the gunsmithing on my main hunting rifle.
I also have decidedto go cast completely,for hunting.PP bullets give me Jacketed bullet velocities in my 30/30,and cast bullet results.
I shot a doe in both shoilders with a 30 cal Hornady bullet.She dropped on the spot,butmboth shoulder roasts were completely destroyed,I shot a buck in the shoulder witha PP cast bullet and ate the shoulder roast.He also dropped on the spot.

Castaway, I'm new to this PP'ing deal and haven't put one down the barrel yet.  I've got a mess of 400 - 500 and 535's wrapped and ready to reload for the 45-70.
OK, why?  Cause @ 600yds, my grease grooves will produce 12 - 14" groups on a good day and I want to determine if PP'ed reloads will do better.

If they do shoot good groups @ 600 (longest range in Jersey), this Spring intend to spend a few days at the Ridgeway Rifle Club seeing how they fly at 1000yds
