Need Information! Malin Mod 94 in 38-40
« on: March 16, 2007, 07:39:47 AM »
I've just recently been given a rifle thats been passed down from my father to me,as his father passed it down to him. The rifle hasnt been shot in about 20 yrs,and before i shoot it,or take to a competent smith to check it out,i need to find out more about the rifle. Its a Marlin Mod. 94 with a case hardened reciever, octoganal barrel, patent Oct 11 1887,April 8 1889,Aug 1 1893. The serial# is 406062 and its chambered for the 38-40. Any info as to when this rifle was produced and its value would be appreciated.

TxRiverman ,
the original marlin model 94's were produced from 1894 to 1934 . i am guessing but i think your gun was towards the later date although i am not a expert on marlin serialization . if the gun is in good shape you would be surprised how much that gun would sell for on a auction site . i am a firm believer that you cant put a price on a family heirlooms and that gun is worth more to you than you will ever find in a book !
