243 in NEF - some cases stick
« on: March 10, 2007, 07:32:33 AM »
A friend just picked up a handi-rifle in .243 .

SOME of the cases would stick - ejector wouldn't lift them.

I recommended cleaning first, sending to NEF second.

Experiences?

Lots of things can cause cases to stick. First thing I would do is scrub the chamber until its SQUEAKY clean and free of lube or oil. Next, you don't mention anything about the ammo, but if he is reloading or shooting someone elses home rolled a,mmo, make sure it is wiped completely clean of case lube.
You might also inspect the extractor and and make sure it isn't broken or chipped.

Stuck brass can be caused by several things, up front are too hot of loads and dirty/oily chamber or brass. If it's sticking with factory ammo, try a different ammo, even some factory is too hot. Polish the chamber as shown in the FAQs, if it still sticks, you can increase ejector spring pressure by installing a BB in front of the spring, ejector R&R is covered in the FAQs also. If all else fails, contact H&R, it may have a defect in the chamber that no matter what you do, it won't help.
