22-6mm Find

Hey all, I just came into a NEF 223 (Serial starting with HH) that was rechambered to a 22-6mm.  Came with just over 50 brass, 22" barrel,  and checkered blonde striped (vertical striping in the wood) stocks.  What do you all know about this wildcat?  May be a fun project or I may part it out, don't really know yet.  Any input or thoughts on this guy?

Matt you seem to have good luck, I would check some load data & load min & try it. Make sure the head space is OK

I would imagine it will outrun a 220 Swift by a fair margin ;)
Wonder what the twist rate is.  If it's 1-12 you might still get by with up to 60gr because of the velocity.  I would guess a 55 will go past 4200 pretty easy.

It sounds like a great coyote gun and those blonde tiger stripe (maple?) stocks sound like the great set that Quick has. If you ever want to part with them please let me know, and congratulations on the great find!!! Heck even though it's an early reciever I might be interested in both the reciever and the stock set if you part it out, but the stocks for sure....<><.... :)

It came with a universal depriming die from RCBS.  I've read that this can be reloaded with a 22-250 neck sizing die and seating die.  Any thoughts?  I've never played with a wildcat before...

I have some experience with wildcats of various sizes and shapes in different kinds of actions.  I have loaded wildcats with cut of dies and dies different than the brass to resize the neck, but....  In a single shot like the handi that has some flex in the action on a hot round like this you brass is going to grow in the base to shoulder length and begin to cause problems. You might only be able to use the brass a couple of times before things go wrong.  If you like it and keep it, find a die to FL resize the brass or just neck down 6mm brass and use it a couple of times.....
Come to think of it you may be able to resize the body in a 6mm die it the shoulder wasn't monkeyed with.  Look into that Matt. Compare the wildcat to a factory 6mm to see if the shoulder or body taper was changed.   Good luck and good shooting.  I have owned a 22-250AI that shot like a string...great fun.

Well, just did the rate of twist on this barrel and it is 1:12 from the best I can tell using the method in the FAQ.  Still not sure just what to do with this set, kind of got it for the action and stock, just can't decide if I want to spend the time tinkering with a wildcat, may have to send it to the bay, we'll see.  Besides, if I want to get to the 4000 mark I'll do it with my 223, and I have, 40 gr barnes VLC's  filled up with H335, this worked well in my #1.

The 22-6mm is a poor canditate for a Handi. You will in short time develop a breech gap. This case simply holds too much powder for the bore. This is a hot rod for a bolt gun.

I would sell this barrel or have it rebored to 7x57 or get a barrel you like from H&R. You be money ahead.
