Accessory Barrel Program Questions
« on: March 14, 2007, 07:22:56 AM »
Hello Members:  I have a .308 Ultra that I am considering having fitted with a .243 bull barrel.  As a first time user of the program, I was hoping that I could get some questions answered here by the experienced:

#1  Does the forend of a standard barrel rifle need to be "opened up" to accept a bull weight barrel?  If so, is this something that H&R does when they fit your new barrel?

#2  It seems that I have previously read that stocks become damaged occasionally during the fitting process.  In general, is it safe to send your original rifle's stock for the fitting, or should one obtain a "beater" stock that one doesn't care about?

#3  Does H&R mail your "new" rifle back to you in the packaging that you mailed it in or do they provide new packaging?  - i.e., do I need to mail it in a box big enough to accept the new barrel?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me into the great outdoors.

I can answer the first part.  The forearm will fit a standard contour barrel or bull barrel or shotgun barrel. The channel is cut the same except for the 10 gauge and USH which is larger.

1) Answered by Spanky.

2) If you have one send it in with a beater stock, if not you can send it without a stock at all but I prefer a beater. Since the shipping is one fee you might use this time to order a synthetic set of your choice to use on other guns, most usuable and cheapest would be a synthetic non Monte Carlo Adult stock. If you later did not want it you could always sell it on the site, but thery are NICE to have...

3) Yes they will send it back in new factory packaging, no need to worry there.

when I got my buffalo classic, it came with a plastic gun case, and the cardboard box that the plastic gun case came in.

I send my guns back to HR with this box and gun case.  They return it in the same, with the extra barrels and protect the pieces from each other very well.

I have never had them damage my stock, and it is a nice one.  Knock on wood now.   OK, now I can continue with this practice.

Damage that I've experienced wasn't in shipping, it was in handling in their shop, the toe of a BC stock was chipped, the chip wasn't in the shipping box, so it had to happen prior to shipping. On a good note, their CS is top notch, they replaced the stock, no questions asked, I sent them a nice email with a pic of the damaged stock, they replied they would replace it, but they were out of the stock at the time, 3 weeks later, Brown showed up at my door with a very nice BC stock.

ps...I cut the damaged stock off square and fitted a Limbsaver recoil pad on it, it matches very well with a TDC forend!! ;D
