.243 question
« on: March 15, 2007, 08:42:41 AM »
I am looking to get my wife a gun that can double as a varmint and deer rifle. I am thinking the .243 will be the best option. I am leaning towards the handi because of the price. Am I dreaming or will 1 rifle (any brand, but really a handi) be able to shoot a 55 grain bullet (for varmints) and a 100 grain bullet (for deer) accurately? I dont know much about twist rates so this is why I am asking.

The .243 Handi or Ultra can do that, just a matter of finding the right load for it. Mithell's 24" Ultra shoots the 55gr CT Ballistic Silvertip ½moa handloaded and the 95gr CT Ballistic Silvertip almost as good in Handloads and factory ammo.

Twist rates are listed in the FAQs, the .243 is 1:10".

Thanks quick,
I did not mean that I did not know the twist rates of the .243, but rather I dont really understand what twist rates are better for 55 grain or 100 grain or 200 grain ect.
Thanks for the info though!!
