Just the Newbie here.

Hello All, just the new guy here. I have been around the gun board scene a long time, usually only as “whiskey” but that was taken here. Anyway, I just ordered my first H&R Handi-Rifle, a .243 Superlite Youth. I ordered the scope base from Brownells and I look forward to getting out to the rage to sight it in. This will be for my 8 year old daughter when she is ready to move up to centerfire. She is a shooter now. She has a pink Crickett and started hunting squirrels this year.

I just wanted to say hi and I will browse all the old knowledge for answers before asking.

A word of warning about the 243 superlites , thay can be VERY picky about what they will shoot and do tend to heat up very fast , mine likes the Speer 100gr bullets in a hand load , you can get 3 or 4 shots before you have to let it cool or your groups will start to look like patterns .

Once you get them dialed in thay shoot well , but DO NOT expect to go out and shoot 2 or 3 boxes of ammo in a hurry . I like mine and i like my kids -  BUT both can be a pain at times .  ;)

Thanks for the advise. I will be sure to take it slow at the range. 10-4 on the kids being a pain ow and then, but we love 'em anyways.

There is a specific thread about the superlights in the sticky, make sure you give that a read. Also keep an eye out for posts by howardnz he has a superlight 243 that he has shooting good. I got a superlight in 22 hornet "for my boys", they might even get to shoot it :) at least once I am done rigging it up and developing loads (it's a k-hornet now so there is a little more work than a stock rifle).
